What do we love about traveling the USA?
The biggest benefit to traveling in the United States is that it's HUGE and, since we are US Citizens, there are no special requirements for us to take pretty much any type of trip we can imagine.
Want an calm ocean-side break from the cold in winter? How about Florida or south Texas.
See yourself checking out a nice volcano? We're thinking Hawaii or Alaska.
Skiing in the mountains more your speed? Get thee to Utah or Colorado!
Need a little desert time to feed your soul? Joshua Tree National Park in southern California has your number.
Some glaciers, you say? Honestly, you'll probably only be able to see them for another decade or two, but Glacier National Park or a myriad of locations in Alaska will get you fixed right up.
And let's not forget the opportunities for an island paradise... Hawaii, the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Florida Keys; they're all calling your name.
We really love that in all of the country, we get to use the same currency, drive on the same side of the road (except the US Virgin Islands) and mostly speak the same language. If you manage to see all 50 states and protectorates, you'll see a fantastic diversity of people, customs, speech, and food.
If you are not from the US or Canada, however, you do need to know that driving from place to place takes a long time... As an example of the size of the US, the entire country of Germany would fit into just a handful of the smaller states. And Texas? It's larger than any European country, just Texas. We also do not have a high speed train so travel by ground can be painful if you're going more than a few hundred miles away just because of the enormity of the land area.
